The Sandeman 1934 Vintage Port is a rarely seen wine. This bottling by "Bentley & Shaw Ltd of Huddersfield" was unusually followed by a declaration the following year. The 1935 appears to be the better of the two. Still, this is not to be overlooked. It feels a little smudged on the nose that is quite resinous, with scents of clove, bay leaf and antique furniture. The palate has a tang of bitter cherry on the entry that lends this tension. For sure, it does not possess the depth of the 1935, but there is a pleasant desiccated orange-peel and cedar-tinged finish that is placid and refined. Tasted May 2015.
