The 1957 Sandeman Vintage Porto has a rather anonymous bouquet that is over-shadowed by the 1955: conservative and lacking the same level of vigor – faded and abraded by time. There is a hint of menthol that develops with aeration, but it is only a fleeting glimpse. The palate is balanced with that menthol leitmotif returning on the entry. Smooth and rounded in the mouth, yet conservative on the finish, this 1957 would ideally be consumed in the near future. Drink now-2020.
