Much deeper in color than the 1945, the 1955 Sandeman Vintage Porto has an attractive resinous bouquet with beeswax, mulberry, cloves, Provencal herbs and star anis surfacing with aeration. There is a noticeable nutty component to this ’55 – smoked walnut is more prominent when returning 20 minutes later. The palate is harmonious with less viscosity than the 1944, but armed with greater length and complexity. This ‘55 is imbued with fine acidity and offers a pinch of white pepper toward the elegant finish. This Sandeman has the substance to continue aging for some years yet. Drink now-2025.
