Now here is a great old Vintage Port! This bottle of Sandeman's 1935 Vintage Porto sported a "George V Jubilee Sandeman" label. It has a superb bouquet: mulberry and sloe, a touch of boot polish and even a sliver of kirsch - a palpable sense of abraded richness. That comes through on the palate that has a sumptuous entry of macerated red cherries infused with clove and sage. The acidity imparts fine balance and freshness, the finish almost long as a coeval Claret with a bit more "oomph." There is more vivacity here than the '34 Sandeman tasted alongside, no surprise given that this was the best declaration of the thirties. This is well worth looking out for if you see a bottle in auction. Tasted May 2015.
