The 2010 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pergole Vece is one of the great wines of the vintage. This standout expression is composed of 70% Corvina and Corvinone, 10% Rondinella, 10% Croatina and 10% Oseleta, aged up to 36 months in barrique. The grapes, harvested as a special selection from old vines, see an extended appassimento (air-drying) of six months. The intensity is impressive and the bouquet offers a full array of dark fruit, spice and leather aromas. The finish is syrupy rich and slightly sweet. Give this wine three or four more years of cellar aging before you pop the cork.
