The 1993 Chianti Classico, from a good rather than exciting vintage in Tuscany, offers a medium ruby color, followed by an attractive redcurrant-scented nose with hints of lead pencil and spice. Well-made, elegant, and stylish, this wine is ready to drink, with clean, smoky, claret-like flavors. Consume it over the next 2-3 years.
This has always been one of my favorite Tuscan producers. I began purchasing their wines in 1983, and have continued to latch on to a few bottles from the better years. Sadly, as with many of the finest wines, prices have gone up significantly.
