The dark ruby/purple-colored 1996 Chianti Classico Riserva tastes as if there might be some Cabernet Sauvignon blended with the Sangiovese. It offers up a weedy, mineral, and cassis-scented bouquet with a touch of oak in the background. A deep, flavorful, pure, rich, nicely-structured finish is also encouraging. Impressively-endowed, but youthful and backward, this Chianti should be cellared for 2-3 years and enjoyed over the following decade. Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200
