The respectable 1997 Allende was affected by botrytis, although it has a very attractive bouquet of red currant, cranberry, mint and cedar, with far more vibrancy than the first two vintages. The palate is sweet and rounded on the entry with sappy red berry fruit, orange zest and fine grainy tannins towards the savory finish. Hints of soy linger nicely on the aftertaste. Drink now-2017.
Commencing with the Allende Blanc, I was impressed by how well this ages. Predominantly Viura with a higher percentage of Malvasia in older vintages, it develops a fine waxy texture and almost dried Barsac-like personality.
