The 1999 Allende has a broody, savory, spicy bouquet of dark berry fruit, licorice and soy that remains introverted in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins and grippy, black, tobacco-tinged fruit towards the “serious” structured finish. Drink 2013-2020.
Commencing with the Allende Blanc, I was impressed by how well this ages. Predominantly Viura with a higher percentage of Malvasia in older vintages, it develops a fine waxy texture and almost dried Barsac-like personality.
