The 1998 Allende has a touch of reduction on the nose that is difficult to dislodge, remaining broody with touches of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, rustic red berry fruit laced with balsamic and just a little toughness towards its sinewy finish. Drink now-2016.
Commencing with the Allende Blanc, I was impressed by how well this ages. Predominantly Viura with a higher percentage of Malvasia in older vintages, it develops a fine waxy texture and almost dried Barsac-like personality.
