The 2000 Allende is lighter on the nose, with red rather than black fruit, and attractive notes of balsamic emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, sappy tannins and vibrant red cherry and cranberry fruit, though it is missing a little complexity and weight towards the finish. Drink now-2019.
Commencing with the Allende Blanc, I was impressed by how well this ages. Predominantly Viura with a higher percentage of Malvasia in older vintages, it develops a fine waxy texture and almost dried Barsac-like personality.
