Opening to pretty darkness and a medium to full-bodied approach, the 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is a dark and saturated expression of Sangioveto (with 5% Canaiolo) that delivers thick layers of Tuscan intensity. The layers reveal sun-drenched berry fruit, wild rose, toasted nut and earthy tones. This is a robust expression for sure, but it also delivers focus, a direct style and sharp contours. The wine shows a point of sweetness on the close, backed by crisp acidity, a great match for a cheesy strata with pancetta and pine nuts. Some 15,000 bottles were made.
