Last Tasted 3/92These notes emerged not from the vertical tasting held in Baltimore, but rather from two bottles purchased off the wine list at Washington, DC's Lion d'Or restaurant. This legendary wine was spectacular, clearly justifying its reputation. The two bottles were equal in quality, although one was slightly sweeter in the mid-palate. Both displayed a deep, garnet, nearly opaque color, with a huge bouquet of jammy, tobacco, cedary, oriental spice-scented, fruity flavors. What makes this wine so remarkable is that at age forty-two it still possesses an extraordinary amount of sweet fruit. Voluptuous and intense, with gobs of chewy fruit, this is a magnificent California Cabernet that has stood the test of time better than most Bordeaux. Amazing! Although fully mature, impeccably well-stored bottles of this wine will keep for another 7-10 years.
