Following their glorious vintages in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, Beaulieu did not make an outstanding Private Reserve until the 2007. While the 2001 is undoubtedly a very good wine, it is more austere than recent vintages displaying a healthy dark ruby/plum color as well as an evolved nose of cedarwood, roasted herbs, sweet oak, kirsch and black currant fruit. Medium-bodied, well made and close to full maturity, it is capable of lasting another 10-12 years. Tel. (800) 373-5896; Fax (707) 967-5233
