The 1989 exhibits a healthy dark ruby color, and a reticent, nearly non-existent aromatic profile of spicy wood, damp earth, and vague fruit. It is medium to full-bodied, with high acidity, and noticeable tannin, but without the flesh, ripeness, and extraction of fruit necessary to hold up to the wine's overwhelming structure. It tastes as if it has a hole in the middle, and it will undoubtedly dry out over the next 10-15 years.
