The 1970 has always been considered one of the great B.V. Private Reserves. Well-stored bottles continue to taste brilliantly, but they are fully mature and cannot be expected to last much longer. This wine performed spectacularly in this recent blind tasting (February, 1995), revealing a huge, complex bouquet of overripe, sweet, jammy, pruny fruit, cedar, herbs, spices, and fruitcake. Fat and rich, with unctuously-textured, chewy, expansive flavors, and a full-bodied finish, it was all this great wine can be. It is, however, living on the edge, so drink it up.
