Showing surprising richness and depth in the vintage, the 2013 Gigondas les Hauts de Montmirail nevertheless comes across as a touch rustic and chunky at the moment, and needs short term cellaring to come together. Notes of licorice, jammy dark fruits, smoked herbs and chocolate all emerge from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, mouth-filling Gigondas. Made from 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre, with a good portion of the blend aged in smaller barrels, give bottles a year or three in the cellar and drink through 2025.
