The black-colored 1990 Gigondas-Les Hauts de Montmirail exhibits lavish quantities of toasty new oak, along with super-ripe scents of cassis. Exceptionally rich, as well as round and soft, this dramatic, full-throttle Gigondas is a real head-turner. I do not see it having the aging potential of the 1989, but who really cares? Drink it over the next 8-10 years. Anticipated maturity: 1992-2002.
